Marvel’s Midnight Suns has a Daredevil reference

Firaxis Games’ tactical RPG Marvel’s Midnight Suns launches in October and is currently in the process of handing out character game showcases as well as lore showcases in the previous months. These showcases are great for avid fans as they allow them to get to know each other Marvel’s Midnight Suns‘ iterations of beloved Marvel characters, as well as observe and learn about the game’s extensive card combat mechanics.

The players know now Marvel’s Midnight Suns‘ colorful cast includes Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Nico Minoru, Blade, Magik, Captain America, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch. This gives a total of 12 characters including the player-character’s avatar, Hunter. However, there is still one character that hasn’t been unveiled yet that players will unlock upon beating Marvel’s Midnight Suns. This could be anyone, but Marvel’s Midnight Suns has a subtle reference to another Marvel character that may end up being unlocked.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Recent gameplay showcase for Captain Marvel offers a deep dive into her abilities and cards, all of which revolve around effects or resources such as Binary, Taunt, Block and Heroism. The showcase gives players a look at Hunter interacting with his Marvel comrades in the Abbey and participating in activities with them there. Here, the showcase shows the hunter working out with Carol on a bench press. Interestingly, each barbell reads “Fogwell”, a name fans will know if they’re familiar with Daredevil.

In fact, the name Fogwell comes from Fogwell’s Gym, a boxing gym in the Marvel fandom located on Manhattan’s Lower West Side. The gym is really only associated with Daredevil, as it was the gym Matt Murdock’s father, known as Battlin’ Jack Murdock, often trained and boxed at. This nod to the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in Marvel’s Midnight Suns may or may not actually amount to anything significant, and may just always be there as a fun easter egg.

Rather, if Daredevil ends up being Marvel’s Midnight Suns‘ latest unlockable character, fans would surely be thrilled. But there has also been a subtle reference in it Marvel’s Midnight Suns to Moon Knight, which featured the name Khonshu seen on several banners along the Mid-Manhattan Museum. Therefore, it is equally likely that Moon Knight can fill the last spot on the list.

Firaxis and 2K may choose to disclose Marvel’s Midnight Suns‘ last character sooner than later. But it’s also possible that players will have to wait to beat the game themselves until the final character is fully revealed, and these references to other characters could simply be there to establish its associated Marvel universe.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns launches on October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is also in development.
