This past week, The Pokemon Company held a special showcase that highlighted a number of things coming to the series, with much of the presentation focused on the latest news for the next mainline titles, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This extensive trailer included many brand new gameplay details, for example Pokemon Scarlet and Violetits new Terastal mechanic, which covers certain Pokémon in crystals. Other new Pokemon were also showcased during this exhibition, such as the doughy dog Pokemon Fidough, along with a regional variant of Wooper.
These headlines have many fans hyped, with all of this information providing other new details, such as the many NPC trainers that players will find throughout the Paldea region. There are a number of named NPC trainers like the training leaders that were introduced, such as the ice-type leader Grusha along with a few others that can be seen through. However, one part some fans may have missed is with a certain trainer class that can be seen to see a reference to the Unova region.
This detail was spotted by a user named DaddyClickbait on the r/pokemon subreddit, who shared that they had noticed a completely new design for the Pokemaniac trainer class, a recurring NPC type that players can encounter. This trainer class has varied over the generations, but the one consistent aspect is that they are huge Pokémon fanatics in the universe, with Pokemon Scarlet and Violettheir incarnation showing them wearing a long-sleeved shirt with a familiar symbol. As the user pointed out, this symbol is the Pokestar Studios logo, from which it originates Pokemon Black 2 and White 2.
Pokestar Studios was a location in the fifth generation’s Unova region where players could help make movies about Pokemon. This includes the player choosing a scenario and competing in a set of staged matches. However, depending on the results of these battles, the film could see a variety of outcomes, from the happy ending to the downright bizarre. This includes movies about robotic Mecha kaiju Tyranitars to a giant woman.
Fans who saw this easter egg were excited to see if there was a cool detail about the Unova region thrown in Scarlett and Violet, which makes the universe feel connected. However, they note that this is likely just a reference, and is not a hint of an upcoming one Pokemon Legends-style game or remake of Pokemon Black and White or its successors.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launches on November 18 for Nintendo Switch.
