After a recent update, Call of Duty: Warzone players are finding that a frustrating visual glitch from 2021 has unfortunately returned.
Activision’s Call of Duty: Warzone continues to be a hugely popular title and is set to continue that trend later this year when the much anticipated war zone 2 is coming. But despite all its successes, the free-to-play Battle Royale hasn’t always had a smooth ride thanks to a cheating and hacking issue as well as a slew of bugs and glitches. While the hacking epidemic has largely been contained thanks to the Ricochet anti-cheat program, bugs and glitches continue to occasionally disrupt matches.
As described by developer Raven Software, Season 5 introduced many changes to the Caldera map inside War zone. Aside from the visual changes, including an active volcano spewing molten lava and flaming rocks on the map, one of the biggest changes would be made to the behind-the-scenes lighting system. With the island storm now cleared, Raven thought the sunlight would be a little more vivid as it peeked through the lush jungle and billowing smoke from the now active volcano.
Unfortunately, it seems that many Call of Duty: Warzone players feel that the lighting has been increased too much as the sunshine has proven to be too intense. In fact, the glare is so intense in some places that many people believe the original War zone visual error from 2021 has returned again. Many players have taken to social media, including the Warzone subReddit, to not only post screenshots of the issues, but condemn the recent lighting changes.
One screenshot from Matt_McGyver on Call of Duty: Warzone subReddit clearly shows the new problems with the lighting system. While looking out of a window, the sun appears to be blindingly large, obscuring the player’s visuals significantly. Another from Rakatee shows their perspective looking uphill with the sunshine seemingly intensified from how it was before the update. Others commented that the lighting is very inconsistent with the northern parts of the map significantly worse and asked for the lighting to be updated to pre-season 5.
While the posts have gained significant popularity, Raven has remained silent on current community concerns. In fact, Season 5 is already confirmed as the last for Warzone, so it’s possible that something like this could be pushed to the side to ensure war zone 2 is ready to go at launch. Whatever the case may be, players probably won’t have to deal with Caldera for much longer as leaked details for war zone 2his map can be strongly influenced by Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer locations such as Terminal, Quarry, Highrise and more.
Call of Duty: Warzone is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
